Debt Validation vs. Lawsuit Response: Do Not Confuse the Two Deadlines

A request for debt information and a response to a filed lawsuit are not the same task. One of the most expensive mistakes people make is assuming that sending a validation letter automatically handles a court deadline.

Track the court deadline separately

If a complaint, summons, motion, hearing notice, or other court paper has been served, identify the response date from the governing rules and court documents. Treat that date as its own project.

Use validation to test the file

A validation or documentation request can help identify the claimed balance, account history, ownership of the account, and supporting records. But the information-gathering track should be coordinated with the litigation track, not substituted for it.

TOFG can help organize correspondence, account records, timelines, pleadings, and research into one working debt-defense file so the immediate deadline and the underlying documentation issues are both visible.
